Lula Lake Academy, the proposed high school on Lookout Mountain, Ga., needs your input. Spearheaded by Debbie Tringale, the Lula Lake Academy board is petitioning the Georgia State Charter Committee (GSCC) again for approval. The new high school did not meet the requirements in 2015, but the board is reapplying on May 15, 2016. The fact that the initial charter petition was not approved is not unusual according to Ms. Tringale, and the GSCC has outlined criteria for the Lula Lake Academy petition to meet.
“We need to demonstrate community support in our petition,” Ms. Tringale said, adding that this community support was not evident in the 2015 petition. Lula Lake Academy will be a public high school serving Walker and Dade counties, and according to the proposed plan, will open with 120 students and three grades – sixth, seventh and eighth. Each year another grade will be added. Upon approval of the charter petition, the state of Georgia will fund academic resources, faculty and staff. Obviously, there are many ways to support this proposed high school, from participating in fundraising events to volunteering to address envelopes. But one way is simply completing an online survey comprised of six questions, which only takes a minute. Ms. Tringale urges everyone to forward the petition to at least one person. Click here to complete the survey when you get a second. The deadline is May 15. April on Lookout Mountain means fun at Fairyland Elementary School's Fairyland Festival.
